Monday Phonics: Set 2 flashcards-
Does your child know the sound and the action? (Jolly Phonics song is linked
below if needed. Please stop the song after the ‘d’ sound.) Join each picture to the sound it begins with. Segment (sound out) and blend (read) first column of Group 1 words Read book ‘Tips’ *Note: This group
of letters is revision, we have covered these sounds in school before
Christmas. If your child is having trouble with any particular sound the
website below is an excellent resource for revision. Simply click Sound like Phonics
Activity Book A. Then click the unit that contains the letter you want
your child to work on e.g r is in Unit 3: The Toy Shop. Click the letter and
there are a number of activities/games for revising that sound. Fine motor: Can you make
any of these sounds c,k,e,h,r,m,d
with playdough? Use the flashcards to help you. Maths- Weight Find objects around the house that are heavy and light. Can
you find things that are heavier/
lighter than your pencil case? Put two objects in your child’s hands-
which one is heavier/lighter? Gaeilge (revision): Watch
the songs on Seesaw and join in. Maybe you could teach them to your parents
or brothers/sisters. There is also a lovely video as

January. We do lots of work on our gross
motor skills in Junior Infants. This week I’ll post an idea each day for
developing these skills. However do not feel under pressure to complete
these- if your child is running around playing/jumping on their trampoline/etc

Can you record yourself reading the words? Read the book ‘Sam’ on Seesaw. Literacy/ SPHE: Please listen to the story ‘The Lion Inside’ on Seesaw (the story is available on Youtube if you’re not using Seesaw) and answer the following questions: Nobody noticed the mouse. He felt left out. What would you do to help someone who felt left out? The lion was afraid of the mouse. Does anything scare you? Who makes you feel better when you feel afraid? Can you think of some words to describe the lion? Can you think of some words to describe the mouse? Art: Draw a cartoon lion: Maths: You have a choice for maths today. Either Planet Maths pg 60 -draw 1 more object in each set to make 2 OR find 3D shapes in your house and build a tower as tall as you can. Remember our 3D shapes are cubes, cuboids, cylinders and spheres. Which of these shapes would be a bad choice for our tower? Fine motor: Go outside and blow bubbles. Use your ‘froggy legs’ to burst the bubbles. Listening activity: Leftover alien ____________________________________________________________________________Fun Friday: If the weather is nice go on a minibeast hunt in your garden. There’s a little ‘I Spy’ checklist in your booklet. How many minibeasts can you find? Draw the alien: Adult reads description of the alien. Child draws it and colour it in. Share your creation on Seesaw if you would like- I’d love to see all your different aliens J Gross motor skills: 1. 1. Ask an adult to help you draw a hopscotch grid outside. Practice hopping (or jumping if hopping is too hard) when playing the game. 2. Can you walk like an animal? See picture below for ideas (or make up your own).
