Today 6th class invited us to come to their class. They taught us a very interesting Science experiment about surface tension. We used milk, food colours, fairy liquid, cotton buds and pipettes to carry out our experiment. Sixth class explained to us that all liquids have surface tension and it acts like an elastic barrier across the surface of the liquid. Milk is a liquid and it has fat molecules in it. We added food colours to the milk and they sat on top of the milk as they are less dense than the milk. We dipped a cotton bud into fairy liquid and we were amazed at what happened when we dipped the cotton bud into the milk. Amazing patterns formed and we loved looking at them. The fairy liquid broke up the fat molecules and the molecules started to run all over the place because the surface tension was broken. This is a great experiment to try at home.
