Padraic’s Visit

We had a wonderful morning on Tuesday when Padraic from the Explorers Programme came to visit us. First he told us all about the oceans. Did you know that the word Pacific means peaceful? Padraic told us that the Pacific is the biggest ocean in the world (it’s bigger than the Atlantic, Arctic, Indian and Southern Oceans). We played the game ‘What Am I?’, each table was given some clues and we had to figure out the animal. Everyone worked together to figure it out. Then we saw eggs from a lesser spotted dogfish (which is one of the 73 species of shark that live off the coast of Ireland) and a stingray. After that we saw bones from a seal and a sheep and also saw oyster and scallop shells. Finally we played a game where we learned how long different items take to break down and why it is so important to recycle and use compost bins.

We are really enjoying our ‘Under The Sea’ Aistear topic and are looking forward to our trip to the aquarium on Friday.
