On our tour we saw:
-the bones of a fin whale
- shark and ray eggs
- baby sharks and baby rays
- seahorses
- clownfish
- conger eels
- butterfish
- lobsters and crayfish
- bass, cod and plaice (did you know that plaice are born as tiny round fish but after a few weeks their bodies flatten, their eyes move to one side of their head and their bodies change colour to match the colour of the seabed?)
- 2 different species of shark that are found off the coast of Ireland
We also fed fish (some of which live up to 200 years), held a spider crab and felt the spiny skin of the starfish.
In the lab Padraic and Anna told us all about squid. They have ten tentacles and the eyes of a giant squid can be as big as footballs. They do not have an outer shell but there is a small inner shell called a pen. Squid have beaks, they are carnivores and there are over 300 species of squid.
We want to say a huge THANK YOU to Mary and Caroline for coming with us on our trip. It was a really super day.
