More fun and games in Junior Infants

This week we finished our first Aistear theme- Houses and Homes. During the month of September we've talked about our own homes, learned about different types of homes and the rooms and objects in them. This week we worked in groups to build a house for a teddy/doll in our classroom.

We also read a story called 'Don't Hog the Hedge!' and collected some leaves in autumn colours to decorate our own hedgehogs.

3D shapes was one of our maths topics in September. So far we can name cubes, cones, cylinders and spheres. We were sorting shapes this week too.

We've been doing lots of work on our gross motor skills. Activities have included crab walking, holding up the wall, passing a ball when back to back and chair sit ups.
Yesterday the children were very excited to discover the bed in our role play area was made up of gymnastics mats. So today we gathered all the mats in the school and had lots of fun practising jumping and landing safely. We also worked on some rolls- pencil roll, forward roll and egg roll.

We awarded our first Star Student certificate today. Every child in the class has been so amazing that I had no choice but to award it to everyone. They're such a super bunch.
Well done Juniors!
